At my house, it's fun to learn things. Plus we know kids that like to learn stuff too. Sometimes we watch history shows or documentaries, read books or go to museums or whatnot about things we're interested or that's new to us. Though sometimes we go over stuff we already know because my brain doesn't work as well as it used to. I was deprived of oxygen for too long and I came out of that with a slight personality change and some memory issues. So going over things can be really helpful for me.There's some interesting facts in here, some of which even those with no issues didn't remember or know in the first place. At one point, the Committee of Five is referenced, but they only show two people who aren't identified. There were a few other pictures of unidentified people -captions are a good thing. This doesn't tell the story or stories of founding fathers, it's facts and factoids. Sometimes the facts were out of order chronologically, I'd prefer it to provress along a timeline. Lincoln was included once but there was only one fact and it was an odd choice if that's all you're gonna say about the man.We're not sure why "in color" was important enough to be on the color. The drawings of the men were in black and white and the statutes were all made of a solid colored material making color not that big an issue. There's the eagle, a stamp and not much else that had color. The facts pages had the U.S. colored like the American flag, which was cool, but doesn't warrant the "in color" in the book's title. I did receive this at a free or discounted rate in exchange for my honest review. The Kindle edition is currently free but the paperback lists at $11, which is way too much for this book. This was a great book. It contained a lot of facts about the founding fathers of the United States. It included photos of presidents and historical landmarks and documents.That being said, my middle school students didn't find this book extremely interesting. (I am a teacher of students with special needs, and read a lot of eBooks aloud to my students. Shorter facts and photos are important for retaining attention and information.) However, I do understand the importance of the content and that we need to read these types of books to our students and children more often, as not everything can be flashy fun and games. Personally, I can't really think of how to make this book any more exciting given the subject matter. I think the author did a great job in presenting this information to be digestible and as interesting as possible. Originally, I was going to give this book 3 stars, but then changed my mind to 4. But, writing this review, I realized that it had to be 5 as I don't think I could present this information any better than how it is now. I would highly recommend this book to parents who want to introduce the constitution and things that happened about 240 years ago in the newly formed United States. I think this would make a great reader for children between the ages of 6 and 9.I received this product at a free or discounted rate in exchange for an honest review.
OVERVIEW: This 51 page book has great pictures and interesting facts. It covers major parts of the nation’s inception and various details about certain founding fathers. The images range from good to great. Both my 6 and 9 year old nephews were a perfect age for both the facts and the images. The book does not have a table of contents, so bookmark or pay attention to your location!BOOK CONTENTS: It has fascinating facts, some of which I knew and some I did not. For example, I knew that Washington never went to college but I did not know that Thomas Jefferson had built a library of 6,500 books and had to sell them to pay off debts. Because the title of the book is “Founding Fathers in Color,†I thought I the imagery was an important part of the book. The book has images of historical places (the Liberty Bell, Mount Rushmore, the Declaration of Independence), but also pictures of extraneous patriotic things like the national bird. The pictures do not have explanations, so you have to fill in the facts for your child. I found I remembered the name of Mount Rushmore and most founding fathers, but had to look up a few in order to explain to my nephews who or what they were. Sorry, elementary school Social Studies class was a long time ago :). In the book, some of the images were pictures of real places or objects, and a few were graphic images obviously designed for the book. I’m only a Photoshop novice, but I can tell some hours were spent making some good pictures. A few images really gave me opportunity to talk about different things with my nephews. Look at the picture I included. I got a chance to talk about the Washington Monument, the White House, Congress and Senate.SUMMARY: All in all, the book had both things my nephews already knew and things they did not. It was a great way to help teach them more about our nation and do it with interesting, colorful pictures.NOTE: I received this product for free or at a discount in exchange for an honest review. There is no incentive to leave positive feedback. This is my honest opinion of the book. I hope my experience helps!
