In the first installment of The Raven Boys, you're introduced to a sixteen year old girl named blue. Everyone in her family is a psychic except for her. All her life her psychic kin have told her that she will kill her true love if they kissed. Although she is not psychic, she has the ability to heighten the power that others have. She is a walking battery. Her aunt, Neeve, comes to town,and after one look at Blue she announces that this year she will find her true love. Through a series of events she finds him to be a handsome man named Richard Gansey III (Gansey). There are only a few problems with this revelation. 1. He's a Raven Boy, an obnoxious group of boys named after their pre ivy league's mascot. Which means he's a rich dick.2. When she meets rich dick he acts like a rich dick by offering her money to go on a date with his shy but adorable friend, Adam.3. At a corpse road ritual, a few nights prior she found out that by the end of the year, Gansy might die.Gansy turns out to be great at looking for lost treasure and that is why he ended up in Henrietta , Virginia. He's been all around the world trying to find lost artifacts or ancient things no one believes exist. While looking for the treasure that lie in this small town he recruits 3 of his best friends. Ronan, a smoldering bald headed bad boy. Adam, the poor cute scholarship Raven boy. And Noah, the sweet but messy boy.I'm not gonna lie, At the beginning of this book I thought this was definitely going to be a DNF and that I was for sure going to rate it a polite, and in my opinion, generous 2. Her writing in the beginning was not appealing to me. Instead of showing us that blue was fashionable and quirky she wrote it out for the reader. Point blank. Multiple times."Blue looked at her clothing. It involved a few thin layering shirts, including one she had altered using a method called shredding. “What’s wrong with it?” Maura shrugged. “Nothing. I always wanted an eccentric daughter. I just never realized how well my evil plans were working"I'm pretty sure I rolled my eyes until they were almost stuck every time stiefvater mentioned the fact that blue was eccentric just because of her styling choices. Another thing that peeved me was her apparent obsession in using the adjective "hungry". Im almost positive that she used it at least once every other paragraph. (That's definitely an exaggeration but honestly it was a stinking butt ton).But around the 30-40% mark I got used to her writing style and I ignored any sentence that included the word hungry. After I was able to do that I quite enjoyed it. Its definitely not the best thing I've read and the plot still moved pretty slow for my taste and I absolutely loathed any chapter dealing with Barrington... But none the less it was enjoyable.

How depressing.The Raven Boys are four very different but complementary older teenagers attending a prestigious pre-ivy league private school . The bad boy, the leader, the quiet, and the poor. Don’t worry, this is the simplistic version. Each of these boys carry secrets and burdens.Are you still with me?Now comes a quest, the strong desire of one of the boys to find something very special. Guess who is great at finding things?In the meantime, our frustrated Blue finally sees something. A boy. On a very special day. A vision that seals her fate to those of the boys.I was a little skeptical about the romance. And the paranormal. And the blurb. And the hype, of course.But I think I’m in love. Let me tell you why.The characterization makes it impossible not to fall for a character, or in my case all of them. The variety of personalities creates a likeable group you are bound to root for.Blue’s family is colorful and loveable. Yes, they are psychics. But that is not all there is to them. The author manages to play with the cliché and build a string of interesting women. They are not cardboard characters, there is a background, there is life. A mother raising her child alone, in a house full of creative minds.The boys. A novel could be written about them. Wait, it’s been done. I don’t feel like saying too much about them because I believe no words could describe them better than the ones used by the author. All you have to know is that a leader can me a thousand more things. So can me the bad boy. It applies to all of them. Maggie Stiefvater gave life to characters with distinct personalities that you can’t fail to love.Blue. Yes, it took me a while to get used to her name. Then I remembered someone had called their kid Apple, which is cute, but unusual. Blue became one of my favorite female characters. It bothers her to be seen as sensitive, but she can’t deny she is. She is friendly, curious, clever. It was refreshing not to get stuck with the strong main character with a hidden show-off super power whining about how her life is so boring until the day something happens and bam, she is transformed into a superhero. Blue is different, in a different way (this is so deep!). Her actions, the relationships she has or builds make her who she is, not her power. I cannot wait to see what happens to her in the next books. Her relationship with her mother and her family felt genuine and spot-on, differing in many ways from the usual teenagers-parents bonds we can find in books.The romance. No insta-love. No long paragraphs about longing for each other. No heavy forbidden-love atmosphere. It is only an element among many others in the plot. I really loved the way every relation was built, how deep the bonds between the boys were, and how love took its place without causing waves or demanding tear-jerking chapters.Back to the plot now. Psychics, Magic. A dead king. A quest. Trees. Nothing that appeals to me. Except this time. Everything is framed so perfectly that it creates a suspenseful and absorbing story that leaves you turning pages faster than the wind gets rid of a tree’s leaves. Don’t dread falling into something too supernatural for you, the right balance keeps you knee-deep in reality while sending you down the magic road.The writing. I don’t even know what to say. I wish I used words the way Maggie Stiefvater does. She makes the trees alive, turns conversations between teenagers into something entertaining, powerful, or the saddest thing you’ve ever read. She gives nouns and verbs a deeper meaning. Feelings become tangible. Her writing style made me hungry for more.If case you hadn’t noticed by now, I fell in love with everything in this book. The story swept me away and the characters filled every chapter with life. I finished this book last night, and I miss everything about it. Isn’t it what you call a book hangover? Don’t send my a doctor or aspirin, I’m happy here.

I took a chance on this book and it didn't disappoint. It's probably true that one could be dropped anywhere on Manhattan Island and there would be a historical story to report. Author Fran Leadon has provided the reader with historical stories galore on the street of dreams from down near Battery Park all the way up to Marble Hill located between the Harlem Ship Canal and Spuyten Duyvil Creek and everywhere in between. The Tenderloin around Times Square, Columbus Square, the Ansonia Hotel, and, of course, the location of old Hilltop Park the first home of the present-day New York Yankees are just some of the notable landmarks we are treated to. If you are interested in New York City, in particular Manhattan Island, this is a book you will find to be worth your while. Photographs are spaced throughout the book.

An amazing piece of research and detective work relayed in a manner that belies the author’s fine sense of humor and keen eye. Would I love to have the author lead a Broadway walking tour? Absolutely. This book has inspired me to walk from one end of Broadway to the other, at least in Manhattan, and I plan to do so during my next visit to NYC.

Fran Leadon sketches a tight and concise history of Manhattan specifically by following the growth and development of Broadway. The stories are compelling, entertaining and packed with valuable information for any student of NYC’s history.

And here I thought I knew a lot about NYC history. "Broadway" opened my eyes to more NYC details than I ever imagined. A brilliant way to bring us back to the various eras of the city. And, as you "walk" up Broadway, the eras progress in a natural order, following the development of one of the most famous streets in the world. There are way too many juicy stories to comment on here. Just buy this book and enjoy it as I did, especially if you've walked this city's streets for decades as I have.

I have nothing but admiration for Leadon's ability to select figures and sites that add scholarly depth to the story of New York while also excelling at the conveyance of a real feeling sense of streets and neighborhoods over time ( some that I already knew extensively; others that were brand new). I am mightily impressed and only wish the book weren't over. Maybe my favorite non-fic West-side Manhattan book of all time.... (fiction faves are 'Martin Dressler' and "Mr. Sammler's Planet'). This is such a fine work!

This is an excellent way to dive into Anthony J Melchiorri's series The Tide! While I have the complete series thus far individually, I like boxed sets so I can do a binge rereading of a series I love! I grabbed this not only for myself but also for my friends who love to read in this genre!Why do I love this series? First of all, the writing is strong and has great scientific explanations behind the "Bio-incident" since this is Melchiorri's area of expertise in his day job! His explanations are easy to understand so that you can fully enjoy the story. Next, his characters are very well developed and REAL! They are human - while heroic in nature and their actions, they still get hurt and feel guilt over those they cannot save. Third, the creatures are SCARY in description! Finally, even with all the action, the author's writing style pulls you in so you FEEL what is happening right along with the main characters! Oh, and there is even a heroic golden retriever named Maggie who I love as a character as well! :)I will be rereading and revisiting my friends in the story as I wait for the next book in the series! This is a great way for me to get through half the series in one go! Anthony Melchiorri is one of my favorite writers - and he has definitely grown in his writing from the beginning. Read this series! You'll love it!

I really liked the basic premise. It is something somewhat possible in today's bio warfare world but the books have MANY logical flaws. Two prime examples early in the first book:1 - a team wearing biological positive pressure suits can 'smell' diesel which is impossible in a positive pressure suit.2 - same team is deep inside a metal 'drilling platform' yet their radios work fine to communicate with their boat. Not possible.Add to the many logical errors the poor editing and seemingly endless repeats of the star character managing to survive impossible scenarios, not once but dozens of times. And of course he is 'back in action' with broken ribs and still portrayed as a nearly invulnerable fighting machine. And after four books there is very little resolved and the writer expects you to buy many more books at a much higher price to find out what happens. I know what happens. The star keeps doing the impossible and more bad guys keep showing up. I won't waste my money on such dribble.

This box set contains 4 full-length post-apocalyptic stories that do not shy away from realities of what happens when a pandemic outbreak occurs. Thus there is violence as well as adult language alongside some subtle adult situations.Each story builds on the previous one. The world is going along as usual when the Hunters, a covert team, is sent on a secret mission. They are seeking some information based on intelligence gathered by their contact in an intelligence agency. Meanwhile, the world is thrown into chaos when a virus spreads and people began transforming into genetic mutations.I love how each story ramps up the intensity of the overall situation. The first 4 books featured in this box set is centered on the Eastern coast of the United States. We, the reader, get to see how the lives of the Hunters are directly or indirectly affected by the outbreak and the resulting genetic mutations. To me, this series delves into the heart of humanity at its best and worst.

Captain Holland and the Hunters are featured in this book set...Four truly outstanding selections and a great price. Personally I used to 'shy' away from these box sets but have learned to appreciate them more as time goes along. They are available on my Kindle for the future whenever I wish to read them again. Am sure at some point that I will read these again.I love the fact that all four of these are action packed, heart throbbing and will raise your blood pressure (well maybe not that last one so much but...)...the pandemic and the pandemonium are real as are the characters....My, oh my...One of the things I truly admired was the science behind the writing. Some authors use their pen indiscriminately and write words to fit the story. In this case, the author has a scientific background and utilizes his knowledge to put words on paper that are justified by his education. Well done...Plot is solid, characters are well defined and the action is fast paced.... Nothing better than a covert mission to stir the reader's imagination.Looking forward to the next one this author writes...Most highly recommended..

What can I say about this fabulous book that hasn't already been said? It's hard to know but I've come to love the good guys in this series, as I'm sure each reader has. Along with the archangel, Michael, there's many good characters doing what is necessary to survive. As the gates of heaven are constantly under assault Lucifer whispers directions for building his own gates to Hades, in the ears of those who would obey him, where fires consume lost humans for eternity. Michael is alone in his quest to save the 144,000 and lead them to the safe valley. Will Michael, in his weakened state, be able to continue to conceal himself while holding out to fight the fight that is coming? Right now only our favorite author knows but we can hope. We have much to look forward to in the next edition.As I've said before, John O'Brien is my favorite living writer and I hope you enjoy his works as much as I. John has said there is not much action in this book. I can't disagree but what there is, is terrifically exciting. Alongside the philosophy I find I loved and enjoyed this volume very much. I hope yo do.As always, happy reading.

Fantastic job, John O’Brien! This book is justly titled Emergence - of people leaving their shelter, findng their way. Some are destined to follow the red light, to fight w the diabolical hell hounds and the forces of Lucifer, to become minions of the dark. Others will struggle to ‘cross the veil’, to believe in the light, to take their place helping Michael, to become a beacon of Hope. The fight goes on, choose your sides wisely as Heaven and Earth are both fighting for survival. Well done, John O’Brien.

In the war for good against evil, survivors must chose a side and go there. This book defines which corner each group head toward for the final battle. Both groups have faith they are on the winning team. Perhaps they are all screwed. Read it and see.

This is the darkest book ive read. Repititious to a large degree. I have enjoyed other series by this author but not this one.

No surprise that this 3rd installment to the Lifting the Veil series is just as mindbending as the the first two. The action in this installment is the battle between good and evil, the minds of men and what they believe is the only way. Some are very well aware they have given themselves over to a darkness they choose not to name but continuing, electing to be swayed by perceived power. Others have no doubt as to what is happening in the world around them as they make their way out of the underground bunkers they have survived in for three and a half years. Groups are all converging in one of two directions, some follow men they know don't have their best interest at heart but can either not leave or are apathetic about their situation. Some do make it out of their clutches unknowingly heading in the direction of saftey.Some are pulled toward that direction that draws them. unfortunately not all are not so lucky as to reach their destination while others find help in the guise of Michael the Archangel as he works behind the scenes to get them to safety.There is no doubt about the religeous aspect of the mini series but I also see the horror/survival plot behind it with a protagonist and antognist, each trying to build their base, good guys against the bad guys. One trying to survive in a world they no longer recognize while the other is a megalmaniac trying to rule what remains of a devastated world and will do anything and everythng to wipe out the opposition.The action is not as fast paced as most of Mr. O'Brien's books but is no less intense as Good and Evil each begin to build their power base. And Mr. O'Brien has done enough research to keep you guessing and even wanting to look for what he alludes to. He does claim to take some liberty with the information he places in plot line but you will be revitted by it just the same.As my husband has said since beginning Mr. O'Briens other series, A NEW WORLD, he (O'Brien) is a damn good writer to keep you on edge as the scenes explode in your mind as you follow the action.

I loved the New World series written by this author and have read all if his books. This new series Lifting the Veil has become my favorite. Ordinary people with doubt and questions of faith facing the evil battle to take over God's domain. The series is not done with huge religious overtones, but instead is well written story of good vs evil and the free will of humankind. I found myself so engrossed in the book and unable to put it down. I look forward to book 4 and the huge battle ahead! Thank you Mr. O'Brien for a fabulous adventure!

As usual, Mr. O'Brien doesn't disappoint. This book is just another example of his excellent writing, character development and story line. I also wait with baited breath for the next book to come out from this author. Highly recommend it.

Our first baby came to us on the 1st try. Trying for #2 was a different story. After 2 frustrating years with a miscarriage and 2 months before turning 40, I got desperate and read several books on how to improve fertility. This book was more a shift in mindset so you can have "I can do it" attitude to overhaul your life to improve fertility.Following the advice in these books including this one: I cut alcohol, coffee, tea, gluten and started to eat organic fruits and vegetables, grass fed beef and milk products. I got rid of scented lotions, shampoo, conditioners, laundry soap. I started taking the supplements suggested. We aired our house daily to rid of fermaldahyde, and got air purifying plants. I did 3 months of acupuncture, and started practicing mindfulness. Using OPK sticks for 2 years and 2 menstrual cycle apps. All this to improve fertility. And Finally I conceived! Now I'm 9 weeks pregnant and keeping my fingers crossed we can make to the finish line!What really did it? All of the above?!? Possibly. But the one thing that worked for us (not mentioned in anything I've read but from a YouTube testimonial) is that your cycle gets odd as you get older. The OPK stick said I was at peak fertility but we actually conceived 2 weeks before! We conceived when mucus was like egg white. So do the baby dance more frequently.So Yes! You can get pregnant! Naturally. I was this close to IVF but followed this guide. I hope this offers hope to a reader who was in my position. I will try to remember to update when I deliver the baby to give a real testimonial.

This book is a must read for anyone that is preparing to conceive or has been trying to conceive. I read this book in May of 2014 when I had had enough of fertility drugs and treatment along with too many unanswered questions from top doctors. Aimee has taken the time to think outside of the box (which I have found most doctors do not) and present holistic practices along with new scientific research. I knew there was another way and this book just happened to find its way to me. Within 3 months of following Aimee's optimal health protocol I was pregnant NATURALLY and was able to keep the pregnancy (I am now 7 months pregnant), something that I have struggled with for years. This book literally changed my life! In November of 2014, my husband and I suffered a miscarriage. Being just newly 31, I was having such a hard time dealing with our loss, which felt like my loss, really. I feel so responsible and helpless and worthless. Leena Clover Cozy Mystery Series is as closer to believable than any I have read. But she did go a little overboard with the mobster talk this time. I understand what she was trying to convey but the Talk was too contrite. Also, Adam's actions are getting a little old and in this series she has maked him sound like he is addicted to pain pills. Please cut out the pill popping and let him heal. Addition is not to be taken lightly. Just one more thing.. 6 murders in just over a one year span ... space them out just a little or Pelican Bay is going to be murder capital of the USA.

Great murderer mystery. Love the main characters Jenny ,Magnolia gang Adam and Jason. Hopefully there will be more in the series. It's nice to see the relationships get stronger. Thank you .Stay well and please continue this series.

As all the books in this series, it was fabulous. Makes you feel sad, happy and keeps you guessing.Ending, as always keeps you anticipating the next book!I highly recommend this series to any Cozy Mystery lovers.

When the owner of the Broadway Cafe is murder no one knows why. Jenny and the local sheriff Adam Hopkins work together, fighting most of the time, to find the killer. Highly recommended for a good clean suspense story.

This is a sad mystery. Again the plot twists keep you guessing. I will miss Petunia. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Really enjoyed the series. Read from beginning to this one. Good characters and plot. I read many books and have really enjoyed this series.

This book was awesome and sad for me! Leena Clover really out did herself with this book. Can't wait for next book.
