This is an excellent way to dive into Anthony J Melchiorri's series The Tide! While I have the complete series thus far individually, I like boxed sets so I can do a binge rereading of a series I love! I grabbed this not only for myself but also for my friends who love to read in this genre!Why do I love this series? First of all, the writing is strong and has great scientific explanations behind the "Bio-incident" since this is Melchiorri's area of expertise in his day job! His explanations are easy to understand so that you can fully enjoy the story. Next, his characters are very well developed and REAL! They are human - while heroic in nature and their actions, they still get hurt and feel guilt over those they cannot save. Third, the creatures are SCARY in description! Finally, even with all the action, the author's writing style pulls you in so you FEEL what is happening right along with the main characters! Oh, and there is even a heroic golden retriever named Maggie who I love as a character as well! :)I will be rereading and revisiting my friends in the story as I wait for the next book in the series! This is a great way for me to get through half the series in one go! Anthony Melchiorri is one of my favorite writers - and he has definitely grown in his writing from the beginning. Read this series! You'll love it!
I really liked the basic premise. It is something somewhat possible in today's bio warfare world but the books have MANY logical flaws. Two prime examples early in the first book:1 - a team wearing biological positive pressure suits can 'smell' diesel which is impossible in a positive pressure suit.2 - same team is deep inside a metal 'drilling platform' yet their radios work fine to communicate with their boat. Not possible.Add to the many logical errors the poor editing and seemingly endless repeats of the star character managing to survive impossible scenarios, not once but dozens of times. And of course he is 'back in action' with broken ribs and still portrayed as a nearly invulnerable fighting machine. And after four books there is very little resolved and the writer expects you to buy many more books at a much higher price to find out what happens. I know what happens. The star keeps doing the impossible and more bad guys keep showing up. I won't waste my money on such dribble.
This box set contains 4 full-length post-apocalyptic stories that do not shy away from realities of what happens when a pandemic outbreak occurs. Thus there is violence as well as adult language alongside some subtle adult situations.Each story builds on the previous one. The world is going along as usual when the Hunters, a covert team, is sent on a secret mission. They are seeking some information based on intelligence gathered by their contact in an intelligence agency. Meanwhile, the world is thrown into chaos when a virus spreads and people began transforming into genetic mutations.I love how each story ramps up the intensity of the overall situation. The first 4 books featured in this box set is centered on the Eastern coast of the United States. We, the reader, get to see how the lives of the Hunters are directly or indirectly affected by the outbreak and the resulting genetic mutations. To me, this series delves into the heart of humanity at its best and worst.
Captain Holland and the Hunters are featured in this book set...Four truly outstanding selections and a great price. Personally I used to 'shy' away from these box sets but have learned to appreciate them more as time goes along. They are available on my Kindle for the future whenever I wish to read them again. Am sure at some point that I will read these again.I love the fact that all four of these are action packed, heart throbbing and will raise your blood pressure (well maybe not that last one so much but...)...the pandemic and the pandemonium are real as are the characters....My, oh my...One of the things I truly admired was the science behind the writing. Some authors use their pen indiscriminately and write words to fit the story. In this case, the author has a scientific background and utilizes his knowledge to put words on paper that are justified by his education. Well done...Plot is solid, characters are well defined and the action is fast paced.... Nothing better than a covert mission to stir the reader's imagination.Looking forward to the next one this author writes...Most highly recommended..
