I have seven daughters. At some point in time, I want all of them to read this. (I feel it's more appropriate for 7/8th grade on up-maybe 9th- but my 7th grader could handle it-she's already hearing most of what Leah talks about) I bought it for my 14 year old daughter who struggles with "fitting in" with today's standards. My oldest will be 18 next month and she is finishing up this book that literally took me two days to read. It is so relevant to today's world and the issues our young women are facing (not even young women, ALL WOMEN!!!) I would even like to encourage men to read this book. I've been telling my husband and 16 year old son about highlights from it and trying to teach my son what our world is doing to women in order to make them "feel accepted..." Thank you, Leah Darrow, for pouring your heart and soul into this book. It's the most raw, sincere, honest, true story I've read in a very long time.
A must read for all women! Leah is so vulnerable and real. She shares the negative effects that the beauty industry and culture has had on her life. She also shares the true side of beauty that can be found by being the person your are made to be. I got sooooo many nuggets of wisdom from this book. I also think guys could benefit from reading this as well. I found that this was a good book to detox from the lies in the culture.
I have enjoyed listening to Leah’s podcast, “Do Something Beautifulâ€, and when I heard her recording of the first chapter, I was hooked! The rest of the book did not disappoint. I loved the blend of research, personal testimony, and Scripture. Definitely passing the book along to my friends!
This book speaks honestly and openly about the pitfalls of empty promises of our times , but Leah listened to her heart and there she was transformed-in God's love and forgiveness. It is a message for us all, well written with humor and heartfelt passages
This book is very insightful and inspiring! A must read for all young women! I love how real Leah is. We can all relate to her struggles because we’ve all faced similar struggles. And Leah inspires us to live a life that Christ calls us to to live... no matter the obstacles we must overcome. It’s an easy read that grabs you from the start.
Leah has done an amazing job on this book! It is a whole different perspective than the lies society feeds us day in and day out. After reading, I am buying a copy for my best friend for Christmas!
