The mark of a very good book - when my views on some of the issues are very different from those of author; yet I found myself in agreement with almost all of her suggested solutions.It's hard to imagine a world where can all have different beliefs and values but yet all happily and peaceful coexist. But Ms Carno does make this world seem possible.I hope she is right, but also realize it is all our own individual responsibility to make it happen.Very inspiring and worthwhile read.
With Government Ruins Nearly Everything, Laura Carno has managed the rare accomplishment of showing a path to peaceful co-existence between people with seemingly irreconcilable political positions. Using the contentious issues of Abortion, Gun Control, Education and Same-Sex Marriage as illustrations, she demonstrates the futility of advocating for more government individual rights violating laws and regulations. You may not agree with her position on one or more of the issues, and she doesn't ask you to, but you will find her arguments for minimal government involvement a refreshing antidote to the knee-jerk "there ought to be a law" mentality that permeates our society.
This is a terrific book. Well written and filled with great information. You should read this whether you are conservative or liberal as it will help you understand what happens if you dont stand up an be counted.
Clear, concise and cogent. Laura Carno has written an excellent book on choice verses government control. She reminds the reader of the proper role of government which is to protect our rights, mediate disputes, and defend the nation. period. Not afraid to confront the "Firework" issues of Abortion, Guns, Schools and Same-Sex marriage, Carno shares stories and insights, with many solutions to these hot button issues. A good primer for those who want a better understanding of how to reclaim social issues from government control and let the free market of ideas and interactions work. A good discussion book for a book club.
Laura's book speaks to the many things wrong with our Govenment today. If the Federal Gov't fixed 1/2 or less of the things Laura described in this book, WE ALL would be better off. I would like to see every govenment employee read this so they would have a glimps at what they are doing to the tax payers.
This is an awesome book! Every politician, government employee and every citizen in the US should read it! The solutions to the major issues facing our country offered by the author were real, practical and eye opening. Amazing. Everyone should read it!
Such a great read! Laura writes in a simple but powerful format. She gives examples that are realistic and obvious- give you the "why didn't I think if that moment" throughout the entire book.She makes a powerful case for the free-market cure to a government sick country!It is a quick but AMAZING read!
This is the most well balanced informative political book that I have ever read. The author gave a fair factual balance of views from both sides of the isle. With all these hard line books out there, it was a pleasure to read this one. I would highly recommend that high schools incorporate this book in the Political Science Classes. It's that good.Ray L.
